WIN £10,000 FOR YOURSELF & £5,000 FOR YOUR CLUB
Welcome to Michael Davitt GAC Swatragh. This page has been set up by the members of the Development committee to help to raise much needed funds to continue with the development of our club grounds and premises.
Like all GAA clubs, Michael Davitt GAC has relied heavily upon the generosity of our Sponsors, local businesses and the general public to sustain us on an annual basis and to help in our continued growth.
We are currently running a draw which will see the winner winning £10,000.00. Not only that, but the winner will have £5,000.00 donated to their chosen GAA Club.
Why not purchase a ticket online to be in with the opportunity of winning £10,000.00 and give your club the chance to get £5,000.00.
Thank you for taking the time to look at our site.
Michael Davitt GAC Club was formed in 1946. This was the centenary year of the birth of Michael Davitt.
In 1971 the ground on which the current Club and Pitch are situated was purchased. In 1973 the camogie club was formed. In 1977 the pitch and pavilion were completed. For the first time giving us our own grounds and premises.
In 1984 the second pitch was opened. Allowing more space for teams to train and play.
In 1988 our main hall was completed. A hall like most of the rest of the work in the grounds was built by both labour and finances from our community.
In the early 2000’s extra ground was purchased to extend the lower pitch and at the same time flood lighting was put up at the lower pitch.
Between 2014 and 2015 the ball wall was completed. Also the main carpark and driveway were tarred.

FUTURE PLANS
We have now formed a development committee to help organise and look after the future development of the club. We have plans to further develop certain aspects of the club.

Changing Rooms
During 2018 a discussion commenced regarding the upgrading of the main pitch. The Main pitch had reached a point where it was unavailable during wet weather. It also needed reseeding and other works carried out. With 21 teams needing training opportunities this was putting extra pressure on an already busy lower pitch.
Due to the COVID 19 pandemic, the 2020 season was greatly restricted. This gave us a unique opportunity to address the problems with the main pitch early in the season. The decision was taken that this was the least disruptive opportunity to carry out any works.
When the decision was reached to move forward with the refurbishment of the main pitch, we also decided that this was the correct time to widen the pitch. Thus removing the possibility of further extension works needing to be done in the future.
We also took this opportunity to future proof the pitch by adding new drainage and ducting for lights, PA etc. We have also added new street lighting to facilitate walkers and other groups using the grounds.
